Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, commonly called "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.
Players can recycle six items at a time to gain a gauge for each item's upgraded component. The cost of recycling items increases depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components

An upgrade for an item in Guild Wars 2 is a process that can increase the stats of your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished by a variety of methods such as using upgrade components or by increasing an item's rarity or mark level. Additionally there are many items that can be reforged, which could boost their stats even more.
You can find upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available all over all over the world, as well as rewards for missions. Players can also make them. Upgrade components are the primary way to upgrade equipment. These are items that slot into equipment. Most equipment comes with upgrade slots, and the majority require a certain level of upgrade. Certain upgrade components offer specific bonuses while others provide an overall bonus.
There are a variety of upgrade components available in the game. These include universal upgrades, inscriptions and jewels. Universal upgrades, like gemstones and enchantments can be placed in any kind of equipment and provide smaller bonuses than those that are equipment-type specific. Glyphs can only be placed in gathering tools and offer numerous bonuses, ranging from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to supplying additional crafting materials.
Select the item in your inventory, and then open the Upgrade window. The window will show an overview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected stats are after the upgrade, along with any necessary components or materials. The Upgrade button at the bottom will show blocked if you don't have enough of or.
The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components needed for a particular item. The cost of an upgrade increases depending on the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but it can be reduced through various methods, including purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.
Nearly all weapons can be upgraded using a prefix upgrade for example, an insignia, or a rune, and a lot of them can be upgraded using suffix upgrades. These upgrades add an adjective to the item's name, such as "Radiant" or "Minor Vigor".
Glyphs
Glyphs are a way to communicate visual information. They are animated to grab the attention of the viewer and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics the body language, making them more effective in conveying the message of a language barrier. Glyphs can also trigger a feeling of familiarity in the brain, increasing retention of the message.
Each glyph comes with a range of values that it can improve a stat by in the form of an item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use it to enchant an Artifact. This is the highest value that the glyph can increase a stat's value by but not the amount it actually improves the stat by. The value of the glyph depends on the tier as well as the quality of the item that you are admiring.
The majority of upgrade components that are added to items cannot be removed or replaced without removing them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can move the item to another piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the chosen glyph.
You can take out the glyph using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is placed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be salvaged by removing the glyph fragments.
When you remove an item after adding a glyph the shards that are part of the glyph will vanish. You can also add an inscription to your equipment to give it an additional benefit. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly instead of all at once. This is helpful for players who are taking a lot of damage from their enemies, but do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to alter the affixes of equipment and weapons. They can be obtained from various sources, such as mysterious boxes and rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll provides the player with an affix randomly chosen and typically better than what they had before. Reroll tokens are also a great option to reroll stats on weapons, which can be upgraded to provide better damage or other perks.
Items that have been rerolled do not appear in the upgrade menu, however, they still qualify to receive upgrades. Rerolled items can be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. The level gauge is boosted by recycling an item. This amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, therefore items with higher levels are more valuable to recycle than lower level ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to reroll Weapon Traits for upgraded units. Rerolls roll a percentage chance for a weapon's trait. If it is higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, the weapon remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeatedly rolled up to three times.
Rerolling is a great method to improve an item. However, players should be aware of the fact that the total ilvl is decreased by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final ilvl. This effect is most evident on rings and Diadems, as they have no other options to raise the ilvl.
The system of rerolls has been criticised by players as being too expensive and it's more reasonable to let players pay for it with money or food items that allows players to modify their builds without wasting time and effort. However the paid rerolls aren't something that the developers would like to implement at this point in the game's development. Instead, they're planning to add an ability to change races in the near future.
Leveling
There are many ways to level up an item upgrade. The first method of leveling up an item upgrade is by increasing the amount of upgrade. This boosts the upgrade value for any stat. The second option is to boost the impact of the upgrade, which boosts the healing or damage for the stat. The base item can be upgraded to a more advanced upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will retain its iLevel however it will be upgraded with the effects of the upgraded item type.
It is crucial to keep in mind that upgrades can be random. In the majority of cases, a better roll will result from glyphs, however there are also possibilities for greater or special rolls. The type of the item will determine the iLevel. If you upgrade a rare or unique item to a special item type, it has a chance of gaining a higher level.
Upgrading items can be costly, particularly when you're upgrading an item of equipment from the standard to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading a piece of equipment will depend on the base iLevel and the number of levels to upgrade. Some upgrade tracks also require crests in order to get to the next level.
If you're lucky the upgraded item will reach the maximum level on its upgrade track and gain an additional benefit. This will increase the item's upgrade value. The bonus effect changes with each upgrade level. In general the upgrade effect is increased by a factor of +3.
The iLevel also changes depending on the item's upgrade path and base level. For instance, a weapon that is upgraded from a rare or unique item to an exceptional item will be able to get the Enhanced Defense of the new base type of item.
