WoW Item Upgrades
Item upgrades--more commonly known as "upping"--are an enchantment and item that can be applied to armor and weapons, increasing their power. These upgrade components increase the level gauge of an item by a certain amount of points. The cost of these upgrades increases depending on their rarity.

Jewels

Jewel levels are determined by the number of modifiers they possess. Jewels with higher tiers have more than lower-tier jewels. The primary effect of a gemstone is determined by the tier it is, while the secondary effect is randomized players can use luck potions to increase the chance of having better secondary effects.
Like other upgrade components jewels can be inserted into an item that has an appropriate socket to boost the item's. A Garnet Jewel and a Garnet Stone both boost power, but a Garnet Jewel also boosts a player's strength when attacking. Jewels can be inserted into all tiers of weapon, armor, and accessory slots, and certain trinkets that are rarer or exotic nature that require an unused slot.
Gems are a DM-specific mechanism that can help make items feel special to their owners. Requirements
